The University Library is the most famous building of KU Leuven Libraries (Leuven, Belgium).
The first stone was laid in 1921, to replace the first university library which was burnt down during the First World War.
The new library opened its doors to readers in 1928. It was itself partly destroyed by fire during the Second World War, and had to be rebuilt after the war.
It now houses collections of Artes (mainly history, art history and Eastern Asian Collections), Special Collections, the University Archives and several library services.
More information on the history of the library can be found here: History and tourist information — KU Leuven Libraries, information for tourists is available here: Tourist information — KU Leuven Libraries.
